Protecting Childhood in a Digital World

Never before have children had so much access to technology, yet never before have parents felt so uncertain about how to navigate it.

Smartphones, social media, gaming and online content now form part of everyday life for many families. Whilst technology offers opportunities for learning, connection and entertainment, it also presents challenges that previous generations of parents never had to face.

At Love Your Life Coaching, I believe the goal is not to eliminate technology, but to help families use it intentionally, responsibly and in ways that support children's healthy development and wellbeing. My work focuses on helping parents, schools and communities make informed decisions about technology, whilst ensuring children continue to experience the play, connection, creativity and real-world opportunities they need to thrive.

Digital Health 1

Why Digital Wellbeing Matters

Many parents tell me they feel overwhelmed by the speed at which technology is changing and uncertain about how best to support their children.

Common concerns include:

  • Smartphone readiness
  • Social media use
  • Gaming and screen addiction
  • Online safety
  • Sleep disruption
  • Family conflict around devices
  • Excessive screen time
  • Healthy boundaries and routines

These concerns are entirely understandable. Childhood is changing rapidly and many parents are trying to navigate challenges that simply did not exist when they were growing up.

Childhood (1)

Reclaiming Childhood

In an increasingly digital world, maintaining a healthy balance between screen-based activities and real-world experiences has never been more important.

One of the questions I am asked most frequently is:

"If not screens, then what?"

The answer is simple. Childhood should be filled with opportunities to play, take risks, build friendships, experience adventure and engage with the world around us. These experiences help children develop confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, problem-solving skills and strong relationships.

Part of my role is helping families reclaim these vital childhood experiences and create practical opportunities for them within modern family life.

My Approach

As a trained PAPAYA presenter, active member of Smartphone Free Childhood and experienced educator, I am passionate about helping families create healthier relationships with technology. I believe that technology should enhance childhood, not replace it.

My approach focuses on:

  • Connection rather than constant consumption
  • Prevention rather than crisis management
  • Real-world experiences alongside digital opportunities

Healthy technology habits begin with us. Whilst much of the conversation focuses on children, many adults also recognise that their own relationship with technology could be healthier. Part of creating a digitally healthy family culture involves modelling the behaviours we hope to see in our children. By becoming more aware, we create opportunities for greater connection, presence and balance within family life.

Digital Wellbeing Schools

For Schools

I deliver engaging talks and workshops for parents, pupils and school communities on topics including:

  • Safer smartphone use
  • Social media awareness
  • Healthy screen habits
  • Creating a balanced childhood in a digital age

Sessions are tailored to the age and needs of the audience and can be delivered as parent workshops, pupil talks or whole-school events.

Family Digital Health

For Families

Support for families seeking guidance around:

  • Smartphone readiness
  • Screen addiction and overuse
  • Gaming
  • Social media
  • Family technology boundaries
  • Creating healthier routines and habits

Digital wellbeing support may be incorporated into family coaching or delivered as standalone guidance depending on your family's needs.
